Golf Classic Wrap Up
Miracle at St. Clair
At 4 am I looked out my kitchen window and all I saw was a monsoon pelting Pittsburgh with over two inches of rain. I said to myself, “I guess we will need to reschedule the golf event.” At 8 am it cleared a bit and the sun poked its head out, a hint of the good day to come! While every weather report was threatening rain, it was a sunny, wonderful day of golf in the South Hills for a great cause! Many thanks to the grounds crew at St. Clair’s who worked hard to prepare the course after all the rain. Incidentally we heard that several golf events were canceled in the region due to weather related course closures, thanks again crew and our Lord for parting the clouds.
A Full course of golfers hit the greens after a shotgun start at 12:30. A putting contest right after the 9th hole was a hit. We had two hole-in-one contest opportunities. One each for a Rolex (provided by Henne Jewelers) and a Chevy Camaro (provided by Colussy Chevy), no one hit the hole – maybe next year! Our hole-in-one winner from last year, Tim Palochak, was on hand to show all of us his new Rolex. Just ask Tim what time it is and he will be happy to tell you!
Our Sponsors Made it Happen
We are so thankful for our longtime sponsors Colussy Chevrolet, Smith Brothers, Lamar Advertising, Mars National Bank, FHL Bank, Highmark, Geo. V. Hamilton, and Laborer’s District Concil of W. PA. And some new friends: HDH Insurance, Opus Consulting, Butler Gas Products, iHeartMedia, Enscoe Long Insurance Group Eat’n Park (who in addition to a generous gift also gave Smiley cookies for dinner) and some very interesting executives connected to the new Marcellas Shale business booming in the region. This group of Oil and Gas guys had a huge impact on our Auction. For our complete list of sponsors, click here.
Speaking of the Auction, we sold out. After a short program explaining the Family Guidance story and our impact in Pittsburgh with at-risk kids – particularly at Promise Camp – we held our auction. Our Mexican vacation, several nights out on the town, Ben Roethlisberger signed football, Smith Brothers Rooftop Pirate’s package, several golf weekends and much more. Most items went for more than their value! We are so thankful for our golfer’s generosity. The whole event was a financial success. PTL.
All in All I want to thank our amazing FG staff, volunteers, St. Clair’s staff and the FG Board of Directors. I particularly want to thank Gretchen Serra and Beth Gazica for their leadership of a wonderful event.
What a great day! Can’t wait till next year.
