Lou and Dayon, A Story of Faithfulness
Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find?
– Proverbs 20:6
Lou is a Lamp mentor who is in his second year of mentoring Dayon. When I made the match there was an immediate connection with the two of them, even down to their birthdays being a day apart. Towards the end of their first year together, Lou found himself traveling for work more and more to Youngstown, Ohio. There were times where he would leave Ohio and drive all the way to Homewood to get Dayon because they had planned to be together. When I did their first year match celebration earlier this year, Lou told me that he would probably be moving to Ohio. I asked him if he wanted to close the match but he did not, especially since the commitment for mentoring after the first year is every other week.
Lou and his wife did move to Ohio and yet he keeps up his contact with Dayon by traveling to Homewood twice a month with phone contact in between. Lou is a picture of a faithful friend.
A recent communication from Lou shows his faithfulness and dedication continues:
“I finally had the chance to spend some time with Dayon…
We spent our birthdays together, August 26th his and 27th mine. Upon returning from a long drive back and forth to Florida to drop my youngest off to Florida State, Dayon and I went to downtown Pittsburgh to have a birthday dinner at his choice, DiBellas.
Lisa made a pecan pie, Day’s request of her months ago, and to her word – after a long drive from Florida – she made and presented the birthday pie….what a surprise to Dayon, as he and I sang happy birthday to each other while sitting in market square. We followed with a Pirate game…priceless.
Doing the best I can during this very busy season in my life, to share mentorship with my Buddy.
He starts school at Westinghouse today….I will call him later to see how it went….he is ready, I know he is prepared to lead by example, for the Lord is by his side.”
We are moved and blessed by stories like this…stories that happen because of faithful partners like you. Your gifts help to give kids like Dayon the hope of a new life in Christ.
